Caring for your board
Hand wash only:
Never clean your board in the dishwasher. Excessive heat can cause warping and splitting. Hand wash with warm water and mild soap, towel dry, and allow it to fully dry upright.
Do not soak:
Don’t leave your board in standing water. If the wood becomes over-saturated with water, the drying process can lead to warping and splitting. Periodic maintenance with food-grade mineral oil and beeswax can help protect from water damage and extend the life of the board.
Protect your board from excessive heat:
Do not place excessively hot items like hot pots, pans or dishes directly on the surface of your board. Much like the surface of your dining table, items that are too hot can damage the wood.
Periodically reseal and condition the wood:
Some very simple TLC will greatly increase the lifespan of your board. All of our products arrive with an all-natural mineral oil and beeswax finish, and periodic reapplications can help extend the life of your board and keep it looking beautiful.
Never seal your board with any type of cooking oil, these types of oils can go rancid and ruin the board, or worse. Use a food-safe finish and proper wood oils like mineral oil or pure tung oil.
When the board appears dry, rub on a thin layer of wood conditioner. Allow it to sit for a minimum of one hour, then buff off the excess with a clean, lint free cloth. For best results, reapply monthly.
